When You Need a 10x14 Non Slip Rug Pad
In most cases, you shouldn’t have to worry about a large area rug like a 10x14 rug moving around much because they’re usually heavy and have furniture anchoring them to the floor.
HOWEVER!
There’s one exception to this rule: thin or lightweight rugs like a flatweave rug, especially in a high traffic area. These rugs may need some non-slip grip to help keep them from moving around, slipping, bunching, wrinkling, or otherwise being annoying.
Why?
Because even though these 10 x 14 rugs are large, they’re also super light meaning they can easily slip and slide around on a slippery floor surface. Can you recommend a good rug pad for sound insulation? My rug is 10x14 and sits on a hardwood floor in an apartment with a grand piano.
I would take a look at our Superior Lock 7/16" or Eco Plush 1/2". Either of these pads will significantly reduce the noise levels coming from your apartment. Both sell very well to customers wanting sound insulation. We recently sold a Superior Lock 7/16" to a drummer.

It all depends on the thickness of your rug. It's best to avoid putting a thick pad under a thinner rug, because you don't want it to be elevated. If your rug is half an inch, I recommend Eco Plus 1/4”.

Is Carpet Lock suitable for 14' x 10' rugs on carpet? One has edges under sofa legs and a coffee table which we sometimes move to let our baby crawl. Will this additional friction damage the carpet? The other rug is under a dining table and chairs.
Yes, Carpet Lock is a good pad for you because it is made especially for rugs over carpets. It will provide grip and prevent bunching and moving when chairs are being slid in and out of place. Contour Lock is slightly thinner at 1/8".
