Benefits Of Using A Rug Pad For Cork Floor Care
We won’t lie: our rug pads for cork flooring are pretty great — both for you and for taking care of your cork floor.
Floor Breathability |
Using a rug pad over cork tiles will help ensure the floor gets enough airflow and does not trap any liquids under the rug that could damage the floor. |
Scratch and Dent Protection |
A thick rug pad can help keep heavy furniture or kitchen appliances from scratching or denting cork floors. The rug pad will act as a barrier to protect the flooring. Plus, rug backings can be scratchy and can do a number on your cork floors. With a rug pad between the rug and floor, you’re good to go. |
Stain Protection |
Cork floors can be especially susceptible to staining from liquids, dropped food, or grease because it can absorb more liquid than hardwoods. Using a rug and rug pad in areas where spillage is most common such as in front of a kitchen sink or under a dining room table can help keep spills under control. |
Non Slip Grip |
For small rugs in high traffic areas, we have grippy rug pads that are safe for cork flooring and will keep your rug in place. |
Eco Friendly |
If you want an eco friendly pad to match your eco friendly cork flooring, you’ve come to the right place. Our eco friendly selection uses all natural and recycled materials. |
USA Made |
All our cork floor protectors are made in the USA so we have full control over everything that goes into them. |

Rug Pad Materials Safe For Cork Floor Tiles
We can’t put a cork in it 😉 for this one: your cork flooring finish is unique and may have unique guidelines for rug pad material too. That’s why we always recommend you ask your flooring manufacturer about what material is best for your floor.
That being said, most of our rug pads should be safe for cork flooring including felt, natural rubber, and memory foam.
The Difference Between Our Cork Floor Rug Pads and a Cork Rug
We hate to disappoint, but our rug pads for cork plank flooring are not made of cork. A cork area rug or cork floor mat are the type of mats that are actually made of cork and we are all for them! Who doesn't love a good DIY wine cork bath mat? It’s just… not what we’re talking about here.
Instead, our rug pads are more like what you’d want to put under that swanky new cork mat to keep it and your flooring happy. We use high quality felt, natural rubber, memory foam, and other premium materials to make our rug pads.
The Best Rug Pads for Small Rugs on Cork Floor Tile
When you have a small or medium rug or runner (think 6 x 9 or smaller), we almost always recommend getting a pad with some grip. Depending on the finish, cork can sometimes be a little more grippy than other hard surface flooring, but small rugs can still move around and be annoying without a good non slip pad to keep it in place.
For a small amount of cushion and maximum grip, we often recommend our Super Lock Natural rug pad for cork flooring. This pad uses natural rubber for a pad that’s completely safe for cork floors and is a low profile 1/8" thickness so it won’t raise the rug too high.
For an ultra eco friendly option, our Nature’s Grip pad is the non slip pad of your dreams. It combines hand-woven organic jute fibers with natural rubber for a grippy, durable, and natural rug pad that will keep your cork floors safe.
Want a bit more padding for your cork floors? Our Superior Lock rug pad is the pad for you. With two thickness options (1/4" and 7/16”), you can choose between plush comfort and ultimate luxury.

The Best Rug Pads for Large Rugs on Cork Flooring
For a larger area rug, a 100% felt rug pad like our Eco Plush is one of the safest materials to put on any floor including cork. The one drawback? It doesn’t have any non slip grip.
That’s why the 100% felt pad is best for large area rugs that are already heavy enough to stay in place on their own or have heavy furniture to anchor them. Plus, our Eco Plush pad comes in three thicknesses (1/4", 3/8", and 1/2") to give you the choice of comfy, comfier, and COMFIEST.
BUT WAIT! The ACTUAL Comfiest Is…
Our Cloud Comfort memory foam rug pad. This 7/16” thick luxury pad is like a mini memory foam bed for your rug and is our level up option from the Eco Plush pad. Made from 100% visco elastic memory foam, the Cloud Comfort is thick, supportive, waterproof, and of course, safe for cork flooring.

I bought a polypropylene 11' x 15' rug for a cork floor. What would you recommend for a rug pad? Is Eco Plush OK? Would 3/8" be too thick for a pad and create a tripping hazard? Also, will the pad damage my floor?
The Eco Plush all felt pad will be ideal for your cork floor and there should be no problem with the 3/8" thickness. However, if you think this is too thick opt for the 1/4" thickness. In terms of safety Eco Plush won't damage your floor, in fact, it will cushion and protect it for many years. Felt is one of the safest materials to put down on floors.
-
Can you please recommend the best rug pad material for a cork floor? I have a small 2' x 3' area rug with a 1/2" pile. Thank you.
For that size rug I would suggest our Super Lock Natural, a powerful non-slip pad made with 100% natural rubber. It is safe for many different types of floor, including cork.
-
Which rug pads are safe to use on a cork floor that has a bona poly finish? I am looking for a rug pad with grip.
I recommend the powerful gripping attributes of our Contour Lock and Superior Lock felt and natural rubber pads. They anchor firmly to floors to prevent rug movements. Both are safe for your type of floor.
-
Can you tell me whether your rug pads are safe on cork flooring? I am particularly interested in the Super Lock Natural.
Our products are safe for all floors and finishes. For your cork flooring, I would also take a look at our Anchor Grip pad. This non-slip pad is a soybean oil-based polymer blend.
-
Which rug pads do you recommend for cork floors in Denver, Colorado which has super low humidity year-round?
If you need a low-profile rug pad, I would suggest RugPro or Super Lock Natural. If you want a non-slip pad with cushion go for Superior Lock. If grip is not needed then I would choose the Eco Plush all felt pad.
-
I am going to lay down some small bamboo bathroom rugs. Will your Anchor Grip pad work under bamboo on a cork floor? We have purchased Anchor Grip pads for larger rugs, and they have been awesome. No slipping!
That’s great to hear. Yes, Anchor Grip pads will work perfectly with your small bamboo rugs just as they are with your larger rugs.
-
I have a 1/4" Eco Plush pad for a Uzbek Turkish rug. Perhaps due to the large knots, the rug still slips. Could I put a rubber pad on top of this pad to prevent slippage? Ideally, I’d prefer not to have rubber next to the cork floor.
I suggest you contact your floor manufacturer to ask if rubber is safe for your floor type. Note that our rubber is natural rubber, not the synthetic kind. I don't recommend stacking the pads on top of each other because I cannot assure you that they will work properly. Have a look at our Superior Lock felt and natural rubber rug pad which has an excellent grip. Alternatively, you can try carpet tape to keep the rug on your current pad.
-
I have Anchor Grips and a Superior Lock pad. The trouble is my area rug walks. I put the rubber side down, is that correct? If so, why is the rug still walking? Could I put an Anchor Grip on top of a Superior Lock pad to stop the problem?
To start with the rubber side of the Superior Lock pad goes down, but if the rug is not heavy enough sometimes it will walk. For lighter weight smaller rugs the best pad is the Anchor Grip. If you put this over the Superior Lock pad, it will solve your problem. Finally, with both pads you will not notice any real difference in height.
-
I have cork flooring and was told not to use rubber-backed rug pads. I need a pad that will prevent slipping that is not rubber-backed. What do you suggest?
I would ask you to contact your floor manufacturer to check whether PVC vinyl is okay for your floors. If it is then I would suggest the Anchor Grip rug pad. This superb gripping non-slip pad is a soybean oil-based polymer blend with zero rubber content.
-
I am in need of a non-slip rug pad for a rug that is approximately 4' x 6'2". However, I have been told not to use rubber-backed pads with cork flooring, so what do you suggest?
If your floor manufacturer is saying no rubber, then Anchor Grip is the pad you want to go with. This is a soybean oil-based polymer blend pad with no rubber content. It has exceptional non-slip traction that stops rugs from moving.

My semi-circular wool hearth rug has a jute backing. Part will be on cork flooring and part will be on a wool hand-knotted Turkish rug. What pad is recommended and can it be custom cut? I want to protect the Turkish rug from abrasive wear by the jute.
I would recommend the Superior Lock felt and natural rubber pad. This firm gripping non-slip pad will keep your rug stable, provide you with a very comfortable level of cushioning and protect your floor and Turkish rug from the jute backing. Regarding custom cutting, this is a free service we offer and we can cut a pad to perfectly fit the semi-circular shape of your rug. All you have to do is enter its exact dimensions and leave us a special instruction stating that this pad is for a semicircle-shaped rug.
