For our 100% felt rug pad options we use 100% recycled material and heat press the synthetic fiber to create a dense, long-lasting rug pad without any glues, bonding agents, or adhesives that could release harmful chemicals.
The result? You get extra thickness and comfort underfoot in a fully eco friendly felt rug pad without any harmful chemicals in the air. These pads work best for a larger area rug because they do not offer non slip grip.
Natural Rubber Eco Friendly Pads
Our natural rubber eco friendly pads include the Super Lock Natural and Nature's Grip. Both these pads are thin (1/8" thick) and offer plenty of grip for small rugs or smaller area rug sizes. We use sustainably sourced real rubber from rubber trees for our natural rubber rug pads and don’t use any plasticizers or harmful chemical fillers that can release VOCs or stain your floor.

The Best Non Toxic Rug Pad for Large Area Rugs (8x10, 9x12, 10x14, or Larger)
If you have a large area rug in a nursery, kid’s bedroom, playroom, or living room you want it to have enough cushion to be comfortable enough to sit on and provide extra padding in case your kid has a fall. Plus, you want a pad that won’t emit VOCs and create an unhealthy environment for your children.
For a non toxic area rug pad for large area rugs, we recommend our Eco Plush rug pad line. The Best Non Slip Eco Rug Pad for Small and Medium Low VOC Rugs (3x5, 4x6, 6x9)
Small and medium eco friendly rugs and runners will likely need slip resistance to keep the rug in place and avoid a slipping hazard. For these types of rugs, we recommend either our Super Lock Natural or Nature’s Grip rug pad.
Both these pads offer excellent grip without sticking to your floor and keep a low profile (1/8" thick) to avoid tripping hazards and ensure doors can still slide over your rug. The Super Lock Natural pad uses over 1 lb. of natural rubber per square yard so you get a more substantial and grippy pad with a comfortable level of cushion.
The Nature’s Grip pad uses a mix of natural rubber and jute plant fibers for a super durable woven rug pad that’s grippy, lightweight, and extremely environmentally friendly.

What is your felt material composed of? We are allergic to wool and want to know if the Eco Plush pad has wool in it.

I bought an 8' round 1/2” thick propylene rug for an engineered hardwood floor. I don't want the back of the rug emitting chemicals onto the floor and wonder what pad you recommend. Also, will the rug’s edges ruin the floor if the pad is cut 1" shorter?
I think you will be fine with the cut, but I really can't speak for the rug you bought. I would suggest a dual purpose pad, such as the Superior Lock. It is made of recycled felt and natural rubber and offers both gripping and cushioning.

Can you please tell me the content of the Eco Plush pad? I have a highly sensitive child and need to know what it contains.
Our Eco Plush pad is made of 100% pre-consumer unused carpet fibers and yarn. There are no chemicals, glues or adhesives and it is non-toxic and odor-free.

I want a pad to go under my daughter's drum kit. We have a thin drum rug and were advised to get a 3/4” thick pad. Also, my daughter is allergic to dust mites so a pad that discourages dust would be best. I also want the most eco-friendly pad we can buy.
Our Superior Lock 7/16" pad does a fantastic job of reducing noise levels within homes. This felt and natural rubber pad is eco-friendly and mildew resistant so dust mites are not really a huge factor.

We're buying an 8.5' x 11' rug for our children's playroom and are looking for an eco-friendly rug pad for the wood floor. We want a strong grip and also cushioning since we spend a lot of time on the floor in there. What do you suggest?
I would take a look at our Superior Lock 7/16" thick rug pad. This felt and natural rubber pad will give you all the comfort and stability you want. We have sold the same pad to people who pray and do yoga for long periods of time.

I need a rug pad to cover a floor that a baby will play on. So, what kind of chemicals are used to produce Superior Lock? Are there flame retardants, moth or mildew protectors, or other chemicals? Is it purely felt and natural rubber? And is it zero VOC?
The rubber we use is natural rubber which has very low VOC. We do not add any chemicals at all to this recycled felt and natural rubber pad. Nor do we use glue or adhesives. Superior Lock is an eco-friendly pad that is odor-free and safe for all rugs, floors, and finishes.

Which eco-friendly rug pad would provide the best thermal insulation?
You have two options, and they are Superior Lock 7/16" and Eco Plush 1/2". Only purchase Eco Plush if your rug is bigger than 8' x 10'. Please note that these pads were not designed to be insulation pads and are only going to help slightly.

I would like to get a pad for a 9' x 12' area rug and a 17' x 29' runner. I want cushion and grip, however, I need to point out that my daughter has a latex allergy. What can you recommend?
I recommend our Anchor Grip pad which is a soybean oil-based polymer blend and therefore not made of rubber. It has exceptional traction and a comfortable level of cushioning and so will suit your needs perfectly. You could also look at the Eco Plush pad which is made of 100% heat-pressed felt. While this has plenty of comfortable cushioning it is not a non-slip rug pad.

Yes, these pads are non-toxic. We don’t use any chemicals or adhesives in our products and they have a low VOC emissions rating.

Are your Anchor Grip rug pads safe? I'm concerned about health issues over what could be in some rug pads.
Our Anchor Grip rug pads are safe. As with all the products we carry it doesn’t have any sort of odd odor nor is there any outgassing. Furthermore, our pads have a low VOC emissions rating.

What is the difference between Nature's Grip and RugPro and what thicknesses do they come in? Also, what is the difference between jute and felt?
Nature's Grip is a natural rubber and jute pad while RugPro is made from felt and natural rubber. They are very similar pads although Nature's Grip is slightly thicker. This pad is 1/8" thick while RugPro is 1/16". Regarding the difference between jute and felt. The former comes from a plant while the latter is synthetic and made from new carpet fibers nylon, yarn and polyester.

My child has a lung condition and I would like a green guard certified rug pad that does not have flame retardant. Which pad would be suitable?
We don't have that certification for our rug pads. But our most natural pad would be Nature's Grip. This is a natural rubber and natural plant jute pad. It does not have any flame retardant.

Is your padding free of formaldehyde, fire retardants, VOCs etc.?
Our rug pads are free of chemicals, including formaldehyde and there are no fire retardants. They have low levels of VOCs.

I'm looking for a pad for the 56" x 79" rug in my son's nursery. I need it to be green certified by CRI and all natural, which means no flame retardants, insecticides or other VOCs. I also want the pad to be soft and have a grip. Do you have such a pad?
We don't have that certification for our rug pads, but I would suggest Nature's Grip which is our most natural pad. It is made of natural rubber and natural plant jute and is free of flame retardants, insecticides, polyester, PVC, and adhesives. This pad has fantastic non-slip properties and is very comfortable to walk on.
