Okay, actually, we use a high-performance soybean oil polymer blend that provides enhanced gripping power and long-lasting support. We engineered these PVC mats with a proprietary formula specifically designed to prevent floors from drying out, sticking, and yellowing.
Other PVC rug pads can sometimes use harmful chemicals like Phthalates, which can harm your floor finish. You won’t find any of those floor-ruining materials in our pads. Plus, while some other PVC rug pads have a glossy finish that can stick to hard floors, our PVC rug pad has more of a matte finish which will not stick to your floor.
Basically, we weren’t lying about the magic.

Wait, Is it Safe to Use Vinyl Rug Pads for Hardwood Floors?
In short, yes, you can use vinyl rug pads for hardwood floors. We’ve tested our PVC pads on many different hardwood floors and finishes and they haven’t stained or damaged any of them.
BUT!
There are some restrictions to that. Floor finishes change and develop. If your hardwood floor manufacturer explicitly says not to use PVC on it’s hardwood floor or hardwood floor finish, do not use a PVC pad. You probably figured that out already, but just in case.
When PVC Isn't The Right Rug Pad Material For You
We can’t deny that sometimes, a PVC mat just isn’t for you. And that’s okay! Here's when we'd recommend one of our other rug pads.
Your Flooring Manufacturer Says No
When it comes to your floor’s safety, your flooring manufacturer is the boss. We always recommend following their guidelines.
Some flooring finishes (often hardwood floors) require a natural rubber rug pad or felt rug pad for an area rug. In this case, we wouldn't recommend using our PVC rug pad (psst, use one of our natural rubber or felt pads instead 😉).
However, every flooring manufacturer has different recommendations for their specific floor finish. Some will specifically recommend a PVC pad, so it's important to check with your floor manufacturer for their guidelines. We don’t make the rules there, we just follow them.
You’re Looking For Cushion
Looking for that plush, “walking-on-a-cloud” feeling from your pad? Our PVC pad may not be the best fit for you. (Sorry.) Don’t get us wrong — it’s still got some quality cushion, but if you don’t need a PVC pad, we can get you something better.
If your flooring doesn't require a PVC pad and you're looking for extra cushioning for large or medium rugs, we'd recommend going with a felted rug pad, memory foam pad, or felt and natural rubber pad. What is the difference between your pvc pads vs others?
We’ve engineered our PVC pads to avoid common issues found with existing imported vinyl and PVC padding, such a floor staining, stripping, sticking, and bottoming out. Our pads are designed specifically to avoid sticking to floors - constructed with more of a matte finish rather than glossy finish. The polymer coating is specifically formulated for enhanced durability and mar resistance while simultaneously improving degradation properties. We are one of the only companies that manufacture our PVC pads in the USA, which allows us full control over the materials used in our padding. Many imported PVC rug pads are blended with chemicals/plasticizers that may react with certain floor finishes. One example of this is the use of Phthalates, a chemical used to soften vinyl, that can be very harmful for your floors (and your home). Our PVC pads are very dense, engineered specifically to resist compression - which means when you walk over them, they will conform to your feet rather than flattening or bottoming out, eliminating cushion potential.

When do you recommend pvc over natural rubber?
Our natural rubber padding and PVC padding are parallel in performance. With less common floor finishes such as vinyl, acrylic, linoleum and lacquered floors, some flooring manufacturers recommend using PVC while others recommend latex/natural rubber. If you're looking for a rug pad for one of these floor finishes, reach out to your flooring manufacturer to determine which material is recommended.

May I have a spec sheet for the rug pad made for vinyl floors?
The Anchor Grip rug pad is made from a soybean oil-based polymer blend. This low-profile pad has an incredible grip that keeps rugs secure and stable, preventing slipping, sliding, bunching and wrinkling. Anchor Grip doesn’t contain harmful plasticizers, such as phthalates that react with certain floor finishes and it protects floors over the long term.

Chemically speaking, are your vinyl rug pads considered to be vinyl?
With regards to the Anchor Grip pad, there is some vinyl but it's mostly made up from soybean oil and bio-based fillers. Our other pads for vinyl floors are Eco Plush, an all felt pad and Cloud Comfort which is made of visco-elastic memory foam.

Do your vinyl pads make a rug cushier to walk on or just less slippery?
Anchor Grip is the only vinyl pad we offer and it is designed to grip rugs and hold them securely in place. I would not purchase this pad if you are only after some cushioning.

Are PVC rug pads appropriate for Coretec Plus planks?
I would stay away from them. Many customers with your type of floor purchase Anchor Grip which is a firm gripping soybean oil-based polymer blend pad. I also usually recommend Eco Plush for Coretec planks. But what I advise you do first is get in touch with the floor manufacturer for their guidelines on what you can put down. They will probably say no rubber or latex. Neither Eco Plush nor Anchor Grip contain rubber or latex.

I have an Armstrong luxury vinyl floor and the manufacturer recommends a PVC pad. Is Anchor Grip a PVC pad?

Yes, this pad is colorfast. It will maintain its color without running or fading. This soybean oil-based polymer blend pad will not stain your floor.

What is the safest pad to use with vinyl wood planks? I'm concerned that a rug pad might yellow or destroy my new floor.
The safest pad to use would be Eco Plush which is an all felt pad. Although please note that it is not a non-slip pad and I only recommend it for really large rugs. If you need something with a gripping attribute go for Anchor Grip which is manufactured with plant-based rather than petroleum-based oils. Both of these pads are safe for your floor and will not stain it. If you are still unsure, I suggest you contact the floor manufacturer because they should have guidelines about what to use.

What rug pad do you recommend for a vinyl floor (Mannington Adura Max)?
I recommend our PVC rug pad which is called Anchor Grip. It is made with plant-based rather than petroleum-based oils, has superb non-slip traction and is safe for your floor. However, do ask the floor manufacturer for their guidelines about what is safe. We always advise customers to do this.

The Coretec Plus luxury vinyl plank flooring company recommends a pad that is safe and non-staining for use over vinyl flooring. Plain felt is okay but I'd like to know if your PVC padding is acceptable?
Yes, it is. Many customers with your type of floor purchase our Anchor Grip pad. You could also look at the Eco Plush all felt pad but bear in mind that this has no gripping attribute. These pads will not stain or harm your floor.

I am having a problem finding a non-staining rug pad for my Mannington Adura vinyl plank floor. I cannot have rubber-backed, latex-backed or coco fiber mats because they’ll stain and damage the floor surface. What do you recommend?
Our Anchor Grip PVC pad is ideal for your type of flooring. It is a soybean oil-based polymer blend with a firm grip that will protect your floor for many years to come. It will not stain or cause it any damage.

I recently had a Mannington Adura vinyl floor put in. The manufacturer says I cannot use a rubber-backed, latex-backed or coco fiber rug pad on my floor. I need a non-staining rug pad and would like to know what you can recommend.
Our PVC rug pad would work for that floor type. It is called Anchor Grip and it's made from a soybean oil-based polymer blend. This pad doesn't contain any latex, rubber or coco fibers and is completely safe for your floor. With that said, we always recommend that customers check with their floor manufacturer for their guidelines on what is safe to put down.

If I buy a PVC rug pad that is too large, can it be cut with scissors? Do you recommend the pad should be 2" smaller than the rug on all sides? Also, is it cheaper to buy one continuous length and cut it once I receive it to serve two identical rugs?
Yes, our Anchor Grip PVC pad is really easy to cut. We automatically cut 1" off all four sides so that our pads are perfect fits for the rugs they go under. With regards to seeing what would be a cheaper option, enter the dimensions for the continuous length and then enter the rug dimensions and look at the price difference.

I have vinyl plank flooring in my kitchen and have purchased a rug that needs a rug pad. In looking at your website, I understand you’re saying felt is better for vinyl planks. But my rug is a runner and you suggest rubber. What can you recommend?
Customers with your floor type often purchase our Anchor Grip pad. It is made from a soybean oil-based polymer blend and has no rubber content. This is a high-performance pad with a great grip.

I have newly installed vinyl flooring and was warned not to use a rug pad with a rubber backing. Is Anchor Grip safe for vinyl flooring?
Yes, it is. This is a very popular pad with customers who have vinyl planks. It has enhanced gripping power and is made from a soybean oil-based polymer blend. There is no rubber at all. Having said all this, it's probably a good idea to contact the manufacturer of your floor for their advice on what can and cannot be used.
