When You Need an 8x10 Non Slip Rug Pad
Hint: for a thin rug in a high traffic area.
We have one exception to our 8x10 “no non slip needed” rule for rug pads: thin and fine rugs like flatweaves. These rugs can often wrinkle and buckle no matter how much heavy furniture you stack on them because they’re so lightweight.
For these types of 8x10 rugs, we recommend getting a pad with a combination of rubber for grip and felt for cushion. Specifically, you’ll want to check out our Superior Lock and Contour Lock rug pads. These pads offer the comfort of cushioned pads but keep thinner rugs laying smooth and flat. And because they’re made from natural rubber, they won’t ever stick to, mark, or stain floors finishes.
The Superior Lock comes in two thicknesses (1/4" and 7/16”) and is our most cushioned non slip pad available with an unbeatable reinforced rubber backing that’s an excellent floor and rug gripper. The Contour Lock pad has moderate cushioning with 1/8" felt padding and a thin rubber backing to keep it anchored to the floor.

Both pads have excellent non-slip traction and are particularly effective at stopping stubborn rugs from moving. If you want a little more comfort in addition to a strong grip, I would select the Superior Lock rug pad.

We have an 8' by 10' rug on the hardwood floor of our family room. I have a 10-month-old son and so padding is important. I also have a dog that may go to the toilet on this rug. Recommendations?
I recommend the Anchor Grip or the Cloud Comfort rug pad. Both are waterproof with an effective liquid resistant barrier that will temporarily prevent dog mess from reaching the hardwood. So, if your dog does relieve itself you’ll have enough time to clean it up. Anchor Grip is a non-slip pad while Cloud Comfort is a memory foam pad with greater levels of cushioned comfort.

I have an 8' x 10' rubber-backed sisal rug on a hardwood floor that’s anchored by a heavy dining table and chairs. I’ve been told that rubber can damage hardwood and wonder what you recommend for protection. I don't need a thick or non-slip pad.
As you have furniture to anchor your rug to the floor, I suggest our Eco Plush pad. This is made of 100% heat-pressed felt and is ideal for large rugs that don't slip. Either the 1/4", 1/3" or 7/16" will work well. The 7/16" thick pad would be the most effective at reducing noise in your home.

Will my felt pad be cut about 2" (no more) shorter so the edges of my 8' x 10' rug lie down flat to the floor?
We will cut you a perfect fitting pad so the rug edges will lie flat to the floor. This will involve taking 1" off all four sides, which makes 2" per dimension. One dimension constitutes two sides.

I need a pad for an 8 by 10 hand-woven wool Kilim rug. It will be going on a laminate floor with sofa legs on top of it. We want some extra cushioning since the rug is thin. What do you recommend to protect the laminate and the rug? What thickness?
