Non-Slip Rug Pads
A quality non-slip rug pad will anchor your rug in place while protecting your floor.
Non-Slip Rug Pads
What to Know About Getting a Non Slip Rug Pad
Non slip rug padding is ideal for any small or runner rug that tends to slip or move around. However, some imported plastic non slip padding or other cheap rug pads can stick to your floors and cause damage.
To avoid this issue, we use high-quality natural rubber or PVC on our non slip rug pads so the pad will grip your floor without sticking to it.
Why Get an Anti Slip Rug Underlay?
When you have stubbornly mobile rugs, smaller rugs, hallway runners, or rugs in high traffic areas, getting your rugs to stay in place often feels like a never-ending battle. You could try other ways to keep rugs from slipping like rug gripper or rug tape, but these often don't last very long or damage your flooring.
Enter the non slip rug pad. Whether it's your doormat, small oriental rug, hallway runner, or living room throw rug, if it slips, our non slip rug pads are here to help. A rug pad keeps things simple and durable while providing the solution you need for many years to come.
You may want a non slip rug pad if you have:
- A small rug
- A runner rug
- Rugs in high-traffic areas
- A lightweight rug
- Kids who like to run
- Energetic dogs

Stands Up to the Frantic Doberman
Totally sold on this rug pad! My Doberman runs back-and-forth between the front of the house and the back of the house when she hears something outside, right over this rug. With the previous useless pad, the rug would slide whichever direction she was turning. It has not moved an inch since installing it. This is a purchase you will not regret!

The Best Non Slip Rug Underlay by Rug Size and Room
You can choose from a variety of different styles of non slip rug pads from a thick rug pad for cushion and rubber grip to a thin grippy pad perfect for door mats because they won't interfere with the door's movement.
When choosing the best rug pad for you, you’ll want to think about a few different things: your rug size, which room it’s going in, and the flooring it’s going on.
Rug Pads for Non Skid Runners (2x8, 2x10, 3x8, 3x10)
Runner rugs look great in hallways and kitchens, but without a non slip rug pad, they can be downright dangerous with how much they slip. For these rugs, you’ll want a low profile rug pad in our Pure Grip category such as Anchor Grip, Super Lock Natural, RugPro, or Nature’s Grip to provide that gripping power.
If you want a bit of cushion or soundproofing for your runner, then go for our Contour Lock rug pad, which is 1/8" thick and combines natural rubber with felt for a bit more sound and impact absorption.
What rug pad is best for a low pile runner rug?
With low pile runner rugs such as flatweaves or any other rug thinner than 1/4", we’d recommend our Anchor Grip or Contour Lock rug pad. These are both 1/8" thick and offer fantastic grip stability so you won’t have to worry about keeping your rug secure.
For slightly more lift, our 7/16” thick Superior Lock rug pad will give you extra cushion and layering.

Anchor Grip Works Great!
Product was as advertised. Came in the exact measurement I requested and works wonderfully in keeping my 11ft runner in place. Love that is made with sustainable material. And it came when it was supposed to. Great Job RugpadUSA!

Small and Non Slip Throw Rugs (2x3 up to 4x6 Rugs)
Smaller rugs in high traffic areas such as kitchens, entryways, bathrooms, and living rooms are tougher to keep anchored, so you’ll want a pure grip rug pad to keep it in place. All of our grip rug pads should be safe with all floor types, but we recommend you double check with your flooring manufacturer on the material they recommend.
In most small rug situations, our Super Lock Natural rug pad is your best choice. This pad is the solution for especially slippy rugs with an extremely grippy natural rubber waffle design, which offers a touch of cushion and facilitates airflow to protect your floors.

Pads That Stay Put!
We purchased two of the super lock natural pads for runners on the high traffic areas of our hardwood floors. While we've only had them a week, they've already proven themselves to me. My dog has spent that time running back and forth across them, and even wrestled with my husband on them at least once a day, and they haven't moved an inch. I did lift them up yesterday to check on the hardwood underneath, and there was no sticking to or damage to the floors in any way. Truly thrilled with my purchase, and have already recommended them to a friend.
Medium Non Slip Area Rugs in High Traffic Rooms (4x6 - 7x10 Rugs)
With medium size rugs, you’ll likely want a dual purpose felt and rubber rug pad with cushion and grip like our Contour Lock and Superior Lock rug pads. This will provide the grip you need to keep the rug in place, while making the rug softer and more comfortable to be on.
If you prefer to keep rugs flush with your floors, our thinnest grippy rug pad, the RugPro will be the one you want.
Large and Extra Large Non Skid Area Rugs (8x10 Rugs and Larger)
For thinner, lower pile rugs such as flatweaves, you always want a bit of grip even for large rugs. This will help keep your rug even, in good condition, and prevent bunching up. For those situations, our Superior Lock rug pad will get you a luxurious feel while still keeping your rug in place.
For a thinner, more budget-friendly option, our Contour Lock rug pad will also provide a nice layer of cushioning while still giving your rug enough grip.
If your large rug is heavier and anchored with heavy furniture, you may not need a non slip pad. In this case, a 100% felt rug pad like our Eco Plush is our #1 recommendation.
What Is the Best Non Slip Rug Pad? (By Types of Rug Pads)
You don’t have to settle for just non slip with our rug pads. We offer multiple types of non slip rugs pads with additional features you want in a pad.
Thick Non Slip Rug Pad
If you want something that adds a bit of cushioning to your rug while still being non slip, our Superior Lock or Contour Lock rug pads are the way to go. Both these pads use a combination of natural rubber and felt. The felt adds cushion which is great for any hard surface and helps the mat grip your rug while the natural rubber on the bottom grips the floor to keep the rug in place.
These thicker pads come in three different thicknesses: the 1/8-inch Contour Lock, 1/4-inch Superior Lock, and 7/16-inch Superior Lock.
Thin Non Slip Mat
In a lot of non-slip scenarios, you'll likely want to have a low-profile rug pad to avoid a tripping hazard or keep the rug from catching on doors. That's where our thin rug pads like the Super Lock Natural, Nature's Grip, Anchor Grip, and RugPro come in.
While all these different pads have slightly different features, they all provide top-notch gripping capability without distracting from the rug.
Our RugPro rug pad is our thinnest rug pad at 1/16th of an inch thick and is one of our strongest gripping pads.
★★★★★
We Love Our RugPro Pads
What a pleasure dealing with a company whose #1 goal, it appears, is customer satisfaction. We love our RugPro pads—the felt over natural rubber gets the job done very well, and the way RugPadUSA cuts the pad to give us a 1” margin on all four sides. Perfect!

Eco-Friendly Anti Slip Pads
Our most eco-friendly rug pad is Nature's Grip, which uses hand-woven organic jute fibers and natural rubber. The combination makes for a super durable and grippy non-skid rug pad that’s environmentally friendly and sustainable.
This pad is 1/8-inch thick meaning it won’t offer much cushion, but won’t cause a tripping hazard and should keep your rugs low enough to fit under doors.
Plus, the organic jute fibers make this pad ideal for places with more moisture because it’s mold and mildew resistant and facilitates airflow.
Anti Skid Pads Safe for Your Floor Type
While all our non slip rug pads should be safe for any hard floor or carpet, these are the anti slip pads we’d most recommend for some of the most common floor types.
Non Slip Rug Pads for Hardwood Floors
With anti skid rug pads on hardwood floors, we generally recommend using natural rubber. As long as you follow your floor manufacturer’s curing time, all our rug pads (including our PVC Anchor Grip Rug Pad) are safe for hardwood and will not scratch, stain, mar, strip or otherwise harm your floor.
With this in mind, the best rug pad for you will largely depend on your rug size and personal preference for how much cushion you’d like.
Non Slip Rug Pads for Laminate Floors
Laminate can be tricky because some floor manufacturers say to only use natural rubber rug pads, while others say no rubber at all. With this in mind, we highly recommend that you check with your floor’s manufacturer to double check.
If you need natural rubber, Super Lock Natural, Nature's Grip, and RugPro are all high performance, low-profile rug pads with strong grip.
If rubber is NOT recommended for your laminate, you’ll want our Anchor Grip rug pad, which uses a soybean-based polymer blend that grips and protects your flooring.
Slip Resistant Pads for Vinyl Plank Floors
Vinyl flooring will also depend on the specific manufacturer, but many will recommend no rubber. In this case, you’ll want our Anchor Grip rug pad, which uses high-quality PVC from a soybean oil-based polymer blend. This pad is 1/8" thick and will provide some slight cushion while protecting your luxury vinyl flooring.
Anti Slip Rug Pads for Marble Floors
Marble is a beautiful and elegant flooring, but it can also be cold and hard meaning it’s not all that fun to walk on, which is probably why you got a rug for it. All of our non slip rug pads will work with slippery marble floors, but we’d especially recommend our Super Lock Natural rug pad because it offers exceptional slip resistance.
For more cushion on larger rugs, you can also opt for the 7/16” Superior Lock rug pad which is our most cushioned non slip rug pad.
Non Skid Rug Pads for Cork Flooring
Since cork floors are softer than hardwood or tile, they can easily scratch or dent, meaning some extra thickness may come in handy. We recommend our Anchor Grip rug pad for a non-rubber option, our Super Lock Natural rug pad for only natural rubber, and our Superior Lock rug pad for more padding and a mix of rubber and felt.
Find The Perfect Anti Slip Rug Pad for Your Rug Type
Your rug has unique needs. That’s why we’re here to make sure you get the absolute best rug pad for your rug.
Low Pile Rugs (Under 1/4 Inch Thick)
With thin, flat or low pile rugs such as flatweaves or many oriental rugs, you will definitely want some solid gripping power to ensure the rug doesn’t move around. With larger rugs, adding more cushion to the thin rug with either Contour Lock or Superior Lock can make the rug more comfortable. Otherwise, our 1/16” thick RugPro will virtually disappear under the rug and provide exceptional grip without any padding.
Which Non Slip Rug Pad Is Best for a Flatweave Rug?
We recommend our Anchor Grip or Contour Lock pads. Both low-profile pads are 1/8" thick and offer plenty of grip stability for the thinner rug to make sure it doesn’t bunch up or become uneven.
Medium Pile Rugs (1/4 Inch to 3/4 Inch Thick)
With thicker, medium pile rugs, you shouldn’t have to worry as much about buckling or wrinkling as they tend to lie flat on their own. Our #1 recommendation for this thickness is Contour Lock (though most of our non slip rug pads will work with this thickness). At 1/8" thick, the Contour Lock pad is still thick enough to grab the bottom of your thicker rug, but thin enough that it won't create much bulk under your already thick rug.
If you're looking to add some more cushion or dimension to your room, you may want to consider our Superior Lock rug pad as well.
Thick Pile Rugs (3/4 Inch or More)
With thick pile rugs, we highly recommend our Contour Lock rug pad because it’s thick enough to hold onto your thick rug but thin enough not to cause a tripping hazard. The felt upper is also especially good to connect with the rug acting almost like velcro to attach to it and keep the rug in place.
Which Anti Slip Mat Is Best for a Jute Rug?
We’d suggest Contour Lock or Superior Lock which are both felt and rubber pads. Both these pads use a combination of natural rubber and recycled felt fibers. The felt upper layer is ideal for attaching itself to uneven rug surfaces such as those in jute rugs, while the rubber under layer keeps the rug firmly in place on the floor without sticking to or damaging your floor. Contour lock is 1/8" thick while Superior Lock comes in 1/4" or 7/16" thicknesses.
★★★★★
Completely Transformed My Jute Rug
I was having problems with my jute rug sliding and stretching out. When I put the Contour Lock pad under my rug it not only held the rug in place it instantly became cushy and plush feeling. I will be buying more!

Customer Questions & Answers
-
I have a thinner area rug. Which non-slip rug pad should I get?
Some thinner area rugs have a tendency to slip out of place or bunch up at the corners. To combat this issue we would recommend the Anchor Grip, Contour Lock, or Superior Lock pads to provide some weight and comfort. Both rug pads work exceptionally well with thin, flat-woven rugs.
-
What are the benefits of a thicker non-slip pad?
Thicker non-slip pads like Contour Lock and Superior Lock pads lend extra cushioning underfoot with a strong grip. Cushioning will soften your rugs, making them more comfortable to walk on. Thinner non skid rug pads work well in high traffic areas, such as hallways and entryways, when cushioning is less important.
-
With larger rugs that are anchored down, do I need a non-slip rug pad?
Non-slip rug pads help keep the corners anchored down while promoting rug evenness. Rugs actually wear from the bottom up, so depending on the strength of your rugs backing a quality rug pad will help prolong the life of your rug. With rugs anchored down, if you’re not worried about the corners slipping or bunching, then a 100% felt or memory foam carpet pad might add a layer of comfort that didn’t exist beforehand.
-
Which non skid rug pads work with which rug types?
For smaller rugs and runner rugs, we recommend choosing a rug pad from our Pure Grip category, such as Anchor Grip, Super Lock Natural, or Nature’s Grip. Smaller rugs in high traffic areas are tougher to keep anchored, our pure grip pads are the best gripping rug pads on the market for these types of issues. With medium sized rugs (4’x6’-7’x10’) - Choose a Dual Purpose rug pad if you’re looking for both cushion and grip or a Pure Grip rug pad if you prefer to keep rugs lying flush with your floors. All rugs within this size typically need a non slip rug pad, unless anchored down by furniture. With larger rugs, 7’x10’ and larger - You can choose any rug pad for these sizes. Most larger rugs that tend to lay flat on their own may not need a non slip rug pad and thus may only need a Pure Cushion pad, such as our 100% felt or memory foam rug pad for added cushion. Thinner, lower pile rugs such as flatweaves should always use a non slip rug pad regardless of rug size to help promote rug evenness and prevent bunching that can occur.
-
Which of your non-skid rug pads are recommended on hardwood floors?
All of our non slip padding is tested and approved for use on wood floors. This includes polyurethane and other glossy floor finishes such as polyurethane. Our pads are specifically designed to avoid marring, staining and stripping issues that can occur with many lower cost imports. We always ask that you follow your flooring manufacturer's instructions and wait for proper curing times.
-
What’s that difference between your non slip rug pads vs other low cost plastic rug pads?
A quality rug pad will “grip” your floors rather than “stick” to your floors. The materials we use, such as natural rubber, which won’t stick and stain floors over an extended period. Our rug pads are made in the USA and we are very careful about what materials we use in our rug pads. Many overseas manufacturers will use cheap chemical fillers which can react with certain floor finishes. One particular example, is the use of phthalates, a class of toxic chemicals used in PVC pads to provide flexibility, which will react very poorly with certain floor finishes. Our non skid rug pads are made either made with natural rubber or a biobased polymer coating. Both of these materials have a much stronger coefficient of friction than standard PVC resulting in much better gripping power. Traditional PVC padding often looses it’s shape & volume over the years and will eventually flatten and bottom out.
-
Which of your rug pads would grip a thin, light flat weave rug on hardwood floors?
I would take a look at our Anchor Grip or Contour Lock pads. Both low-profile pads are 1/8" thick and great for grip stability. You won't have problems with either of these as they will keep your rug secure.
-
I am trying to decide between Anchor Grip and Super Lock Natural for a 2' x 3' high-traffic kitchen rug on a gloss wood floor finish. Both seem to be a good choice. What do you suggest?
You are right. Both would work just fine for that size rug and floor type. I would go with the Super Lock Natural. It is our best-gripping rug pad and prevents even stubbornly mobile rugs from moving in high-traffic areas. This natural rubber pad also provides superior floor protection.
-
I need an 8' x 10' strong gripping pad so that an electric wheelchair can easily move across a rug. Currently, the rug bunches up which is a safety issue.
Anchor Grip is the best rug pad to go with. It is made from a soybean oil-based polymer blend and has an exceptionally strong grip that will stop your rug from bunching up. This pad will also protect the condition of your floor for many years.
-
What is the best pad to stop my large silk area rug from bunching up? I also have a laminate floor so the pad will need to be non-skid too.
Our Superior Lock pad is the one for you. It's non-slip and will prevent a whole range of common rug problems such as bunching and wrinkling.
-
I am looking for your recommendation for a thin (approx. 1/8") non-slip pad to go on hardwood floors.
We have a low-profile pad with a very powerful grip called Contour Lock. It is 1/8" thick and made of felt and natural rubber.
-
I ordered an Eco Plush pad but it turns out the pad and the rug are too thick and our bedroom door won't clear. The rug is about 0.25" thick and the door will clear slightly less than 0.5". How thick are Nature's Grip and Super Lock Natural?
Nature's Grip and Super Lock Natural are both 1/8" thick.
-
My three thin cotton Kilim runners bunch and skate like crazy on the hardwood. I would like them to be as stable as possible. Padding for noise control would be a bonus. The dimensions are: 95"x32"; 32"x117"; and 95"x32".
The Superior-Lock 7/16" will work very well for your situation. This is the thickest size we do for this pad, and it will stop your rug from moving while also dampening sound.
-
What is the best rug pad to protect marble floors and prevent slipping?
I recommend our Superior Lock felt and natural rubber pad. Its firm grip will stop your rug from moving while the needle-punched felt surface will keep it even, preventing bunching and creeping. At the same time, this pad confers long-term floor and rug protection.
-
I have a queen size inflatable mattress and I need something to keep it from sliding on my hardwood floor. Any suggestions?
It sounds like one of our natural rubber products might help. I would take a look at Super Lock Natural or Nature's Grip. Hopefully, the natural rubber will grab the mattress material and prevent slipping. However, I am not 100% sure, its an unusual question. If the pad doesn't work out for you you can return it for a full refund.
-
Are these pads safe for cork plank flooring and a 2' x 3' flat weave rug? Polyester pads don't hold it in place and the rug manufacturer says to use anything that isn't latex.
Yes they are, and I've got several suggestions for you. Anchor Grip would work very well for you. It's a soybean oil-based polymer blend. You could also look at RugPro and Super Lock.
-
How thick is your RugPro pad? Does it have a similar thickness to the Super Lock Natural? I'm currently using a rug pad that is similar to Super Lock for my runner but now I want a felt/non-slip combo.
RugPro is 1/16" thick and so it is a lot thinner than Super Lock Natural. You could use RugPro or Contour Lock for your runner. They are both low-profile felt and natural rubber pads with excellent non-slip traction. You can also look at our Anchor Grip rug pad because it works very well for runners.
-
I am considering Super Lock Natural and Anchor Grip for the 2.5' x 8'2" runner on my wood flooring. Is there a major difference between the two rug pads?
Either will work well for you and keep your runner in place. Anchor Grip has a solid weave and is a soybean oil-based polymer blend pad. Super Lock Natural is an all natural rubber pad and it is open weave.
-
Can you make a recommendation for a non-slip rug pad to go under a low-profile vinyl-backed rug? It is situated in the entryway of a business, and I want it to stop slipping.
I recommend the low-profile Anchor Grip pad. It has a very strong grip that will keep your rug locked in place even when the entryway is very busy.
-
I have a good oriental runner in a corridor that needs to stay in place without damaging the wood floor. What's your recommendation?
Take a look at either RugPro or Super Lock Natural. Both offer superior protection for floors and rugs, and have fantastic gripping qualities, even with rugs and runners in high-traffic areas.
-
I'm looking for a low-profile rug pad with lots of grip for a 7' x 9’ rug. It's to go on a newish laminate wood floor.
I have two choices for you. The first is RugPro which at 1/16” is our thinnest pad. Then there is Contour Lock which is about 1/8" thick. Both of these pads are made of felt and natural rubber and possess an excellent gripping attribute.
-
I am looking for a non-skid super grip pad to go under a 9' x 12' area rug on a laminate floor. What do you suggest?
I recommend our Superior Lock or Contour Lock rug pads. Both of these will anchor your rug firmly to the floor to prevent all manner of rug movements such as slipping, sliding and creeping.
-
I have the RugPro pad under a rug by our front door but the door rubs against the rug when it is being opened. Are Nature's Grip or Super Lock Natural thinner rug pads?
RugPro is the thinnest rug pad we offer. It is about 1/16" thick
-
I need a pad for a rug that will go beneath a dining table and chairs on a hardwood floor. No one will ever sit or lie down on the rug. Can I get by with the thinnest rug pad you have or is there a reason for me to get a thicker one?
At just 1/16", RugPro is the thinnest pad we have. This will be fine under your rug. You would only want to go thicker if you are looking for comfort. So, whether you decide on thin or thicker is really down to your preference.
-
I have an 8' x 11' wool area rug on a hardwood floor under my dining table. Over time, the pushing in of chairs has caused the rug to wrinkle in the middle. Would RugPro be a good pad to keep it smooth? I don’t need a lot of cushion.
RugPro is an excellent choice. This low-profile felt and natural rubber pad is just 1/16" thick and has an excellent grip that will prevent wrinkling and ensure that your rug lies smoothly on the floor.
