Why Use a Memory Foam Rug Pad
If you're looking for supreme luxury with thick foam pads under your area rugs, one of our memory foam rug pads is the way to go. Just like memory foam carpet pads, our pads offer fantastic padding for rugs that don't need a slip resistant rug pad.
Made with the same Visco elastic memory foam that you find in mattresses, our memory foam padding is incredibly comfortable under your feet and safe for any floor type. The memory foam pads are slightly more expensive than some of our other rug pad options like a felt rug pad, but many people feel it's worth it because it offers the most comfort.
The Benefits of Our Memory Foam Pads for Rugs
Memory foam rug pads are ideal for anyone looking for fantastic rug padding and floor protection for their area rugs. A quality memory foam area rug pad will offer a plush experience in your house that will make your feet extremely happy.
Foam Padding for Floors |
Our memory foam pad options offer next-level foam padding for floors. With maximum comfort and support, there’s a reason we named our Cloud Comfort rug pad after a cloud. |
Water Resistant Foam Padding |
Our most water resistant foam padding is our SpillTech rug pad, but all our memory foam rug pads offer some water resistance to protect your floors from spills and pet accidents and give you time to clean up the liquid before it hits the floors. |
Improves Soundproofing Capacity |
For two-level homes, apartments, or condos soundproofing floors can be a challenge. Our thick memory foam can help to absorb some of the noise traveling between floors. |
Pressure Relief |
When you step on our memory foam rug pads the foam pad absorbs and redistributes your body weight so each step feels cushioned and light. This can make a huge difference especially if you have any food or joint issues. |
Floor Protection |
Whether you have laminate flooring, hardwood flooring, or another type of hard surface floor, our memory foam rug pads will protect your floor and will never stain or discolor the floor surface. |
Rug Protection |
The thick padding between your floor and rug reduces friction so your rug won’t wear down as quickly. |
Heat Insulation |
Ever walked on cold marble or tile floors barefoot in the winter? It will suck the heat straight out of your feet. With your rug and thick foam padding, you’ll avoid losing as much heat through your floors. |
Low VOC Content |
Our Cloud Comfort rug pad uses natural minerals and soybean oils instead of petrol oils, so it has a very low VOC content and won’t give off any bad odors. |

Awesome Rug Pad for Hard Floors and Babies
I purchased the thick version of this rug pad earlier this year after moving to a home with laminate hardwood flooring. I hesitated for a while due to the cost, but I have no regrets about my purchase. It has been perfect having this as my baby has learned to crawl and walk. My baby actually has some padding as he crawls, walks, and inevitably falls (or temper tantrums now). It has saved us from a lot of unnecessary bonks and resulting tears. Plus, this makes the floor comfortable enough that I can sit and lay to play on the ground. I love that this is made in the USA, and it's nice purchasing a product that a company can stand behind with a 10 year warranty. Thank you for providing a great product!

Get to Know Our Memory Foam Rug Pads
Whether you're looking for a cushioned rug pad or a water-resistant rug pad, we want to make sure you find exactly what you're looking for. Our two main options for memory foam flooring pads are our Cloud Comfort rug pad and our SpillTech rug pad.
Cloud Comfort Rug Pad
Our Cloud Comfort rug pad is made with 100% visco elastic memory foam, providing a dense layer of cushioning for those looking to truly maximize comfort. Just like a mattress cradles you as you sleep, this pad cradles your feet with every step.
We offer two different thicknesses for the Comfort Cloud rug pad: 1/4-inch and 7/16-inch. The thinner option will still provide plenty of carpet padding and comfort and can help avoid indents from heavy furniture or tripping hazards because of the lower profile. The thicker option is perfect for a large memory foam rug pad that you want to sit on more.

Just What My Rug Needed!
Sized perfectly, and provided the right amount of cushion under my feet. I actually wasn't sure about the rug I had purchased. With this rug pad underneath, I LOVE my rug.

SpillTech Rug Pad: Rebond Rug Pads
SpillTech combines recycled rebond rug pads with a spill-proof moisture barrier, providing ample cushioning while preventing spills from reaching your floors. The pad combines a 3/8" thick layer of urethane foam with Scotchgard’s Advanced Repel Technology. The perfect pet-proof rug pad!
This type of bonded foam is most similar to a memory foam carpet pad you might use with wall-to-wall carpet.

A Must-Have for Pet Households
This rug pad has certainly been put to the test by my two 65 pound dogs. The waterproof properties bring me peace of mind knowing that I don’t have to worry about accidents seeping through the rug pad. I clean up the mess with a portable rug cleaner and bring in the experts every so often to deep clean the rugs. Their pad offers good cushion- I can sit comfortable on the living room floor to play with my daughter. I’ve since added this product to my dining room and will put one in the playroom as well.

When Not to Get a Memory Foam Rug Pad?
If you need padding for a smaller rug like a hallway rug or bath mat. With smaller or lighter rugs, they often need a non-slip pad to act as a rug gripper and prevent the rug from moving or bunching up on a hard floor.
As a general rule for area rug sizes, if your area rug measures 8x10 or larger, you'll want to maximize cushioning over grip meaning a memory foam rug pad would work well. Have a 10x14 rug? A memory foam rug pad is right for you.
A 6x9 rug? You may want to consider one of our area rug pad options that combine grip and cushion, like one of our felt and rubber rug pads. These pads are also fully safe for most floors including hardwood flooring.
Can You Use Our Memory Foam Rug Pads as Memory Foam Carpet Pads?
We don’t recommend using our memory foam rug pads for wall-to-wall carpet because carpet padding attaches directly to the carpet while rug padding works on its own.
The Best Memory Foam Area Rug Pad by Rug Size and Room
Different rug sizes and rooms have different needs when it comes to rug pads, so we’re here to help you find the right rug pad to fit your needs.
Can You Use Memory Foam Rug Padding for Small Rugs and Runners? (4x6 Rugs and Smaller)
While some of our customers have had good results with our memory foam rug pads on runners or smaller mats in kitchens, hallways, and bathrooms, we don’t recommend using them because they do not have any slip resistance.
With smaller rugs, you will likely need some non slip grip for your rug pad, meaning our memory foam won’t be the right choice. Instead, we recommend checking out our non skid rug pad collection.
The Best Memory Foam Rug Pad 5x8, 6x9, 7x10
When looking for a medium memory foam pad like a memory foam rug pad 5x8 size, you’ll want to consider whether or not you need a non slip rug pad. Often with this size, we recommend choosing a pad with some grip like our Superior Lock rug pad because it combines grippy natural rubber with cushioned felt and comes in the same thicknesses as our memory foam (1/4" and 7/16”).
If your rug is heavy and has furniture to anchor it in place, you may not need extra grip. In this case, our thinner Cloud Comfort rug pad might be a good fit to offer an extra soft feel without posing a tripping hazard.
The Best Thick Foam Pads for a Large or XL Memory Foam Area Rug 8x10, 10x13, 12x15, or Larger
If you’re looking for a memory foam area rug pad for large rugs like a memory foam area rug 8x10 pad, any of our memory foam pads would be fantastic options. All of these pads offer spill protection for the large areas and offer extreme comfort.
If you have pets or kids that spill liquids often, we’d recommend our waterproof foam pad, the SpillTech rug pad. Otherwise, either of our Cloud Comfort rug pad thicknesses would be perfect for your rug, it’ll just depend on your personal preference with padding.
For more padding, go with the thicker, 7/16” Cloud Comfort. For a lower profile, go with the thinner, 1/4" Cloud Comfort.
The Best Memory Foam Rugs for Bedroom Comfort
When you get out of bed and your feet hit the floor, you want them to feel cushioned and warm, right? That’s why you’d want memory foam rugs for bedroom comfort.
If you have a large area rug that goes under your bed, our 1/4" thick Cloud Comfort would be an excellent choice to put under your rug because it’s not so thick that you’ll get intense dents from the heavy bed, but you’ll still get fantastic pressure relief for your feet right out of bed.
The Best Memory Foam Living Room Rug Pad
The living room is one of the most common places we recommend using a memory foam rug pad because it’s the #1 place you’ll want to feel comfy and cozy with friends and family around.
If you have kids or like to spend lots of time sitting on the floor, then a memory foam living room rug pad is a great investment. Our thick 7/16” Cloud Comfort rug pad is on the pricier side, but with the price comes ultimate luxury for sitting and spending time on. It also offers great floor protection for toddlers and babies still learning to walk.
If you have pets that you’re still house training, our SpillTech rug pad is the one for you with it’s 100% water resistant layer to protect your floors
Is Memory Foam Safe for All Floor Types?
Our memory foam rug pads are safe for all floor types and finishes so you can rest easy knowing your floors are well protected. Whether you have hardwood floors, laminate floors, tile, marble, or luxury vinyl planks, your floors will be safe from damage as long as you follow your flooring manufacturer’s instructions for proper curing times.
Customer Questions & Answers
-
Spilltech vs. Cloud Comfort vs. Eco Plush - which is best for my rug?
All three pads are designed to provide superior levels of comfort for larger rugs that do not need a non-slip rug pad. Cloud Comfort (memory foam) is going to be the most comfortable but also be the most expensive. SpillTech is for the specialty buyer who wants to add cushion while preventing spills and stains from reaching their floors (ex. pet owners). Eco Plush offers premium levels of comfort at varying thickness levels, allowing you to choose how much cushion you prefer.
-
What material are your foam pads made of?
Cloud Comfort is made with 100% visco-elastic polyurethane foam. SpillTech is made with select rebonded foam. Cloud Comfort made in part with soybean oils and natural minerals. SpillTech is also hypoallergenic.
-
What floor types can your memory foam pads be used with?
Our foam pads are safe for all floor types long as you follow your flooring manufacturers carefully and wait for proper curing times.
-
Will these pads prevent slipping?
No. Neither Cloud Comfort nor SpillTech will prevent rugs from slipping. They are designed for larger rugs (6’x9’ & larger) that often do not need a non-slip rug pad. Due to rug pad thickness, they aren’t ideal for smaller rugs as they will raise rugs too high off the ground and may create a tripping hazard.
-
A vapor and sound barrier adhesive was used to install our engineered wood floor which is over concrete. There is a need for the rug pad to breathe, particularly with a power failure and lack of AC. Which of your products permits moisture to escape?
I would suggest either Super Lock Natural which is a natural rubber pad or Eco Plush which is made entirely of heat-pressed felt. Both pads are breathable and therefore moisture is easily able to escape. They are also mold and mildew resistant.
-
Which would be the best pad for sound insulation to reduce the noise impact of footsteps?
If your rug is large enough the 1/2" Cloud Comfort memory foam pad would be the best option but it is not non-slip. If you need a strong grip as well as soundproofing then the Superior Lock 7/16" is best.
-
I have wooden floors and would like to stop sound from traveling downstairs. Which pad would work best?
Either the Cloud Comfort 1/2" or the Superior Lock 7/16" if you are also looking for a non-slip pad. Both will greatly reduce noise levels as well as stop your rug from moving.
-
Which of your pads is good for soundproofing? We have a two-year-old and we are trying to keep our downstairs area quiet. We have standard, regular floor rugs.
Depending on the size of your rugs, you can go with Cloud Comfort or Superior Lock 7/16". Both do great jobs of minimizing the impact of sounds within homes. If you need non-slip attributes as well as soundproofing, go with Superior Lock.
-
Which of your rug pads is best for soundproofing?
Our best pad to eliminate and minimize noises is the 1/2" Cloud Comfort. However, this pad doesn't have a lot of grip. If you want non-slip traction and soundproofing try the Superior Lock 7/16" pad.
-
I have tile flooring and a 7'8" x 10'4" rug, and would like to create a setup where my friends would feel comfortable sitting on the floor. Will Cloud Comfort work for my needs?
Yes, it will, but do keep in mind that Cloud Comfort is not a non-slip pad. If you would like a gripping pad that is also comfy and soft there is our Superior Lock felt and natural rubber pad. It comes in three different thicknesses with 7/16" being the thickest.
-
Will the 7/16" Cloud Comfort pad work with a thin wool carpet?
It really depends on the size of the rug. If it is under 9' x 12' there is a good chance that the rug will move.
-
Can I use the Cloud Comfort pad for a rug that measures slightly less than 8' x 10'? My partner really wants the cushy feel, but I am concerned that it might cause a tripping hazard.
I don't think this pad will create a tripping hazard. But if you are worried, I suggest the 1/4" thickness would be best.
-
I have a small grand piano that I plan to place over a rug and rug pad. Will the piano's weight leave permanent depressions if I use a Cloud Comfort pad?
If you are concerned about indents, I recommend Cloud Comfort at 1/4" thickness. You should be fine with that.
-
Do the felt pads like Eco Plush distribute weight better than the Cloud Comfort foam pad? I want the most comfortable pad for lying on the floor in the living room.
The best pad for lying on the floor in the way you want is the 7/16" thick Cloud Comfort rug pad. It is softer than the Eco Plush pad and as it is memory foam it will compress and conform to the shape of the person that is lying on it. This pad is made of the same materials as memory foam mattresses.
-
Which of your rug pads is best for sound insulation?
Although not specifically designed for this purpose, the Cloud Comfort 7/16" is best for sound insulation. This visco-elastic memory foam pad does an excellent job of reducing sound transmission.
-
Do you have a memory foam pad that grips?
No, we don't. Our Cloud Comfort rug pad is made of visco-elastic memory foam but it is not a non-slip pad.
-
My 13' x 10' Persian rug doesn't have a very high pile. Would an eco-friendly felt or memory foam pad be best? Also, should I choose 1/4" or 7/16" thickness? Any suggestions? I am concerned about the rug being elevated. Is 7/16" very noticeable?
You can go with either one, although the memory foam will provide the most comfort. The way to decide on thickness is to think about how much plusher you want your rug to be. I recommend Eco Plush or Cloud Comfort for your rug. We will cut the pad slightly smaller so it won't show. If you are worried about the pad's height I suggest 1/4" thickness. And if you don't like the pad, you can return it within 30 days of purchase for a full and no quibble refund.
-
I would like the Cloud Comfort rug pad but am worried about the height being noticeable or looking strange. Would the 7/16" thickness be noticeable especially around the borders? If I went for something thinner would it be less cushy?
There's no need to worry about the pad showing because we will cut a slightly smaller size to avoid this problem completely. If you are worried about the height of the pad, I suggest you choose the 1/4" thickness. This would be less cushy than the thicker version.
-
Could your Cloud Comfort pad damage my hardwood floor over time?
No, this pad is perfectly safe for hardwood floors. We guarantee Cloud Comfort to last for at least 20 years.
