Rug Pads for Radiant Heat Floors
Why Do Some Rug Pads Not Do Well with Radiant Heating?
In simple terms: they can’t handle the heat!
We know you love your radiant heat floors, but your rug pad? It’s basically trying to live with being on a constant slow cooker.
A plastic rug pad or even all rubber rug pads can struggle on radiant heat flooring because they can deform, melt, or disintegrate. While most of the time, a carpet pad with insulation is *chef’s kiss* perfect, with a heated floor, it blocks out the heat.
You need a special kind of carpet pad to handle that kind of constant heat and make sure the heat still gets to you.
Enter the carpet pad for radiant heat.
A carpet pad or rug pad for radiant heat is specifically designed to handle a wide range of temperatures and they won’t block out the heat from your floors.

LOVE the RugPro Pad!
I have radiant floors in my office. I have a beautiful cotton rug to allow the heat to transfer into the room. However, it kept bunching like crazy (that's what happens on top of tile)...not any more! It lies perfectly flat, no matter how many people are in there, and it still is warm. I am so grateful!

The Difference Between Our Rug Pads for Radiant Heat and a Heated Floor Mat
Let’s be clear here: our rug pads for radiant heat flooring are not the same as a heated floor mat.
While our rug pads are plush, cozy, and great for your floor, they do not offer any heat on their own like a heated floor mat or heated rug pad does.
Our pads are what you’d put on top of heated hardwood floors, heated laminate floor, or radiant heat tile. Use your radiant floor mats, then one of our heat resistant pads on top with a sweet rug of your choice for a top-notch heated area rug.
The Best Rug Pad for Radiant Heat Flooring and Small Rugs
If you’re looking for a heated floor carpet pad for a small rug in the range of 3 x 5 to 6 x 9, we recommend getting a pad with some non slip grip. Just because your floor is heated, doesn’t make it slip resistant!
Our best non slip pad for radiant heat would be our super thin RugPro rug pad, which combines natural rubber and felt for a breathable 1/16-inch rug pad with exceptional grip. The thin quality of the pad makes it ideal for radiant heat because the heat can pass right through.
If you want to put a bit more spring in your step for a small heated bathroom rug or hallway rug, you’ve got to go with either the Contour Lock or Superior Lock rug pad. Superior Lock has the most padding with either 1/4" or 7/16” thicknesses while Contour Lock comes in at 1/8" thickness for a lower profile touch of cushion. Both these pads have a natural rubber backing that’s safe for heated floors.
Your Non Slip Choices for Radiant Floor Heating
The Best Radiant Heat Carpet Pad for Large Area Rugs
If you’re putting a large area rug on radiant floor heating, you’ve got to get our Eco Plush rug pad.
Punching in at three different thicknesses (1/4", 3/8”, and 1/2") and made of tightly woven 100% recycled felt, the Eco Plush is completely safe for radiant heat floors and is seriously comfortable. To get the most heat from your floor, you want the thinner, 1/4-inch Eco Plush.
Keep in mind, these A+ felt pads are all the rage, but they don’t have non slip grip so only use them for large rugs or rugs that have plenty of furniture weighing them down.
