• Q:

  Do I need a non-slip pad or a cushion pad?

  A:

  Non-slip pads are best for high-traffic areas such as foyers and hallways, where thin rugs and runners are prone to slipping and sliding. Our cushion pads add a plush layer for large rugs already anchored by furniture, such as living and dining rooms. Should you decide you need a degree of both grip and cushioning, opt for a felt and rubber pad.

• Q:

  Which pad works best with jute rugs?

  A:

  We would suggest Contour Lock or Superior Lock which are both felt and rubber pads. Both of these are made from a combination of rubber and recycled felt fibers. The felt upper layer is ideal for attaching itself to uneven rug surfaces such as those in jute rugs, while the rubber under layer keeps the rug firmly in place on the floor. Contour Lock is 1/8 inch thick while Superior Lock comes in 1/3 inch or 7/16 inch thicknesses.

  Which rug types work well with Contour Lock?

  A:

  Contour Lock is one of our most versatile pads and can be used with all rug types and styles. With smaller rugs and runner rugs, Contour Lock will add a layer of cushioning without the bulk of a thicker pad. With larger rugs, Contour Lock will combine moderate cushion with a strong gripping power. Contour Lock, like all felt and rubber rug pads, work really well with low pile rugs, such as flat weaves. Contour Lock also works well with wool, tufted, knotted, and hooked rugs.

• Q:

  Which rug pad works best with radiant heat flooring?

  A:

  We suggest Contour Lock, Superior Lock, or Eco Plush. Contour Lock and Superior lock are made from a combination of rubber and recycled felt fibers and offer both cushioning and non-slip grip. Eco Plush is made from only felt and solely offers cushioning. Felt and rubber are both natural materials and are durable enough to withstand changing temperatures (such as those with radiant heat flooring) without breaking down or damaging the floor.

• Q:

  Which rug pads are best for shag rugs?

  A:

  We would recommend a felt and rubber pad like RugPro, Contour Lock or Superior Lock. If you want a low profile option, RugPro is the best fit. If you would like to add a some cushioning, Contour Lock or Superior Lock is recommended.

• Q:

  When would you recommend Contour Lock vs Superior Lock?

  A:

  Both of our Felt + Rubber rug pads are designed to offer high levels of both cushioning and grip. Superior Lock is thicker than Contour Lock, thus offering more cushion to maximize comfort. Superior Lock also has a textured reinforced backing that offers slightly more grip than Contour Lock. Therefore, go with Contour Lock if you for a more low profile look with moderate cushioning and Superior Lock if your looking to maximize cushion.

• Q:

  Does this rug pad contain any noticeable odors?

  A:

  No. Our felt & rubber pads do not come with any noticeable odors.

• Q:

  Could Contour Lock be used with smaller area rugs?

  A:

  Yes. Contour lock works well with smaller rugs, especially if you're looking to add a layer of cushion without raising your rugs too high off the ground in high traffic areas.

• Q:

  Which floor types is Contour Lock safe for?

  A:

  Contour Lock is safe for all floors and finishes as long as you follow your flooring manufacturer's instructions and wait for proper curing times. With odd floor finishes, such as waxed, polished, vinyl, lacquered, and acrylic, be sure to check with your flooring manufacturer as some will recommend using a natural rubber pad while others will recommend using a vinyl pad.

  What type of backing does Contour Lock have?

  A:

  Contour Lock is made with a natural rubber backing. Our backing is engineered to avoid common problems such as floor staining and stripping that can occur with lesser quality padding.

• Q:

  Is the Contour Lock pad suitable for a jute rug under a kitchen table and four chairs? Is its 1/8" thickness fine for my thin rug?

  A:

  The Contour Lock pad will work well with your rug because you need something that will stop movement when chairs are placed in and out. Regarding pad thickness, you really don't want anything thicker.

  What rug pad do you suggest for a kilim rug?

  A:

  I have a couple of suggestions for you. Super Lock and Contour Lock both offer great gripping for this type of flat weave rug.

• Q:

  Which pad would you recommend for my very thin 100% cotton rug?

  A:

  Please take a look at our Contour Lock pad. It has a firm grip and only gives moderate levels of cushioning, so it won't bulk out your rug.

  Which pad is best to use under a stairway runner?

  A:

  I recommend the reliable gripping of our Contour Lock pad, which is 1/8" thick and ideal for runners.

• Q:

  I ordered a 7' x 10' Contour Lock pad which is fantastic but unfortunately, I didn't measure the rug it’s to go under. So I'm stuck with a rug pad that is too big. Is there any way you can help fix my problem short of me ordering a new pad?

  A:

  The only thing I can suggest is that you trim the pad yourself with a pair of commercial scissors or a razor blade. The pad will not fray so provided you find a good cutting tool you should be fine.

• Q:

  I have hardwood floors and an oriental rug that's going under a dining room table. Therefore, it won't need a lot of cushioning. What pad do you recommend in this situation?

  A:

  The rug maybe secure under the table, but with chairs moving in and out there will still be slipping. The solution is one of our dual pads, such as our Contour Lock pads. They are 1/8" thick and have a firm grip. And the subtle cushioning means there's no bulking.

• Q:

  I have just received my new Contour Lock rug pad and have a quick question for you. Does the rubber side face the floor and the other side face the rug?

  A:

  Yes, you are correct. Rubber side down and felt side up.

• Q:

  We have some very thick, nubby jute area rugs that we want to use on our new hardwood floors. We need something that will protect the floors and keep the jute from sliding around. What do you suggest?

  A:

  I suggest the Contour Lock pad, which is 1/8" thick. It will protect your floors and stop your rugs from sliding around.

• Q:

  I am looking for the best non-slip pad for an L.L. Bean hooked rug. I have hardwood floors and have noticed in my friends' houses that rug pads (not yours) can leave marks on the floor. What can you suggest for me?

  A:

  Our pads do not leave marks or damage floors. We use totally different materials than those you will find in cheap and low-quality pads. For your rug and floor type, the Contour Lock or the Superior Lock will work best. These felt and natural rubber pads have powerful no-slip traction and comfortable underfoot cushioning. They will also look after your floor and rug for many years to come.

  What rug pad is best for a Turkish silk area rug?

  A:

  Our Contour Lock 1/8" pad is very popular with people who own Turkish silk area rugs, because it provides a firm foundation and is low profile.

• Q:

  I need a rug pad to stop a 2' x 7' hallway runner from moving and bunching on a tile floor. I was going to order Superior Lock, but perhaps I should go with a thinner option?

  A:

  Yes, I would go with the Contour Lock pad. It is 1/8" thick and will work better for a runner. The powerful non-slip traction will stop it from bunching, wrinkling and slipping.

• Q:

  Which pads would be compatible with a 4' x 13' sisal runner on a wood floor?

  A:

  I would suggest our Contour Lock pad which is 1/8" thick. Its strong grip is designed to prevent rugs and runners from bunching, slipping and sliding. The heat-pressed felt layer will securely fasten to the bottom of your rug while the natural rubber backing will adhere tightly to the floor.

• Q:

  I am looking for a 6' round rug pad to go under a braided rug. They will sit below a kitchen table on a tile floor. What do you recommend? And do I need to make a special order for a round pad?

  A:

  I recommend Contour Lock for you. This is a low-profile non-slip pad made of felt and natural rubber. With regards to your other question, you don't need to make a special request. When you are ordering you will see a shape selection dropdown menu. Just click on the arrow and select round.

• Q:

  What thickness do you recommend for a 9' x 12' oriental rug on a wood floor? A little bit of cushioning would be nice but I don't want to trip over the rug.

  A:

  I suggest the Contour Lock felt and natural rubber pad. It will give you a nice level of cushioning even though it is only 1/8" thick. As it is one of our low-profile pads you shouldn't trip over it.

  I have a 6' x 9' area wool rug on a laminate floor. Would the Contour Lock rug pad be a good choice or not?

  A:

  Yes, the Contour Lock felt and natural rubber non-slip pad would be a perfect choice. If you wanted to add some more comfort to your rug you could go with any thickness of the Superior Lock rug pad.

• Q:

  Which pad do you suggest will protect my shaggy rug and stop it from slipping?

  A:

  Contour Lock is the pad you want to go with. This felt and natural rubber pad has a strong grip that will keep your rug firmly in place. It is also designed to protect rugs over the long term.

• Q:

  I have just ordered a 2.6' x 8' wool rug with a .5 to .75 pile for the kitchen. Which rug pad do you think is best?

  A:

  I suggest the Contour Lock felt and natural rubber pad. This low-profile 1/8" thick pad will hold your rug in place and stop it from moving around.

  What is the best pad for an 8'5" x 12'5" area rug in a low-traffic area on a hardwood floor? The rug is 3/8" thick and will be anchored by furniture.

  Is Contour Lock a good pad to use on a polished concrete floor with radiant heat?

  A:

• Q:

  Can I use any of your pads under a couch to protect my new hardwood floor from its metal frame?

  A:

  Yes, you can. I would suggest the Contour Lock felt and natural rubber pad. It is low profile so can easily slip under the couch to provide a protective barrier that will keep your floor safe from damage.

• Q:

  I need a pad for a thin dining room area rug that’s kept in place by a table and chairs. It’s on a hardwood oak floor with a polyurethane finish. Is Contour Lock 1/8" the right choice? Also, how long will it take to ship to Dallas and what’s the cost?

  A:

• Q:

  I have two handmade wool area rugs that need new pads. The original pads were quite thin and I would like to get thin pads again. What is recommended? They are on hardwood floors in low-traffic areas.

  A:

  I would suggest a pad like RugPro or Contour Lock. They are both low-profile felt and natural rubber pads with solid gripping attributes. RugPro is 1/16” thick while Contour Lock is 1/8” thick.
